How to apply

Approximately $700,000 will be awarded through four different award types with the 2011 Community Engagement Program. The application process for 2011 is now closed.

• Selected colleges and universities for the Camp Kesem program will receive $10,000 as seed funding to begin the Camp Kesem program.
• Selected sites for the Cancer Transitions program will be awarded in the amount of $4,000 to support two cycles of the program and all necessary materials will be provided.
• Selected regions for the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA will receive $35,000 to be divided evenly amongst the YMCA locations implementing this program through the Community Impact Project.
• Selected organizations for the LIVESTRONG Promotores Training Program will receive an award in the amount of $3,000 to cover the costs associated with the trainings, including a small honorarium to each trained Promotor(a).

How it works

This year's award process will consist of two phases. Applicants interested in implementing a model program in their community will complete the application form for the selected model programs. Applicants may apply for more than one model program—applications must be submitted separately for each model program. LIVESTRONG staff will review each application and select the strongest candidates to move into the voting phase of the project. Applications will be selected on demonstrated need, ability of the applicant to convey the competency of the facilitator and location of the applicant. Selected applicants move on to the voting phase.

The final selection for this year's award process will be left to communities across the country through an online voting campaign. Through this process community members select which facilities they would like to see receive funding to implement a program. This process will demonstrate where there is a large level of community support and a need for these programs. Voting will last for three weeks. Top vote-getters within each model program category will be awarded funding. The number of awards will vary by region. LIVESTRONG will fund up to 12 sites for Camp Kesem, 35 sites for Cancer Transitions, 30 sites for the Promotores training program and 2 regions for the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program, resulting in the largest annual programmatic support in the history of our Community Program.
