Head and neck cancer is not a specific cancer diagnosis, rather a category encompassing the many cancers that start in the head and neck region. These cancers can include those that start in the mouth, throat, nose, sinuses, throat, larynx, and saliva glands. Men get head and neck cancers at more than 2x the rate as women, and they are most commonly diagnosed in people older than 50. Tobacco use is a leading cause of head and neck cancers. HPV (human papillomavirus), a sexually transmitted infection, also poses a risk.
